This is a RCIADIC recommendation
That governments should take more positive steps to recruit and train Aboriginal people as court staff and interpreters in locations where significant numbers of Aboriginal people appear before the courts.
The Royal Commission into Aboriginal Deaths in Custody (RCIADIC) emphasised that Aboriginal people overwhelmingly regard the system as loaded against them and as either ignorant or dismissive of their culture. Further, Aboriginal people throughout Australia have expressed the desire for much greater involvement in court processes and court departments have recognised the value of employing Aboriginal court staff. RCIADIC found that Aboriginal staff will only be found if a much more determined effort to recruit and train them.
